Latest Features and Functionality
The New Features in Civil Designer 8.1

CIVIL DESIGNER 8.1 builds on the success of the current version and further extends the infrastructure design functionality that has made it the preferred solution for discerning engineers. In response to client requests, the new release also includes:

Road Rehabilitation Functionality
Several functions have been enhanced to make road rehabilitation easier and faster:
  • Horizontal and vertical alignment regression analysis removes co-linear points.
  • Extract alignments from a terrain strings model.
  • Extract road edge data and layerwork limits from CAD entities.
  • Crowned dual carriageways.
  • Median connection options (connect at a grade or include existing median features from DTM).
  • Enhanced interface for string extraction.
  • Variable size components that can be used to model retaining walls.
Water Film Thickness
This generates a colour gradient indicating calculated water depth at each point on the road surface for a given rainfall intensity.

Improved Road Strings Modelling
Strings modelling has been enhanced for the following benefits:
  • You no longer have to insert chainages at road widenings.
  • The roads model is now dynamically merged with the ground surface:
    • No need to translate roads to DTM.
    • Cover levels and long sections for Sewer, Storm and Water are picked up automatically from the road profile.
  • The mass haul volume calculation creates a Selected Sub Grade surface:
    • This eliminates the need to run the Solidify Layerworks function.
    • You can render the selected sub grade surface.
    • Quick calculation of the natural ground to SSG quantities.
  • Improved rendering of components and kerbs
  • Enhancements to junction plan listing.

Automatic Junctions
When graphically editing a horizontal alignment, start and end points can be automatically connected to nearby major roads with intersections.

Observations and Figures Database
Observations and figures are now stored in a database that can be accessed during all survey calculation routines.
  • Provides an easy interface for managing total station records.
  • Perform survey calculations from total station records.
  • Convenient assistants for data entry for Traverse, Tache and Control Net reductions.
  • Consistent heighting & preview for all calculation types.
  • Generate SG diagrams from survey points and figures.
  • Customisable drawing scale for generating SG diagrams.
  • List points by click point, output to screen, file or table.
Draft Expert
The Draft Expert significantly speeds up preliminary draughting and allows you to generate CAD entities and DTM points for topographic drawings according to defined point name rules, which can then be re-used as required.

Terrain Strings
Terrain strings have been enhanced to model complex bulk earthworks more readily: General
In addition the following changes have been made:
WATER can now graphically show, model (CSIR Values) and analyse:
  • Fire Hydrants Town and individual FH flows, Pressures, and duration.
  • Erf connections - Single and double erf connection and flowrates.
  • Public Stand Pipes Pressure and flowrates.
Variable peak factor analysis
Related to number of connected users and position inside the same network.

PRP (Poisson Rectangular Pulse) Analysis
Provides realistic patterns of water usage by simulating draw-off as a series of pulses of random intensity and duration.

  • The DX rendering engine has been further enhanced for faster redraws, improved 3D rendering and new render view controls to provide intuitive navigation in render view.
  • Google Earth integration has been improved. The KML output now includes visible text and the output for DTM can consist of surface triangles with actual heights (Civil Designer heights) or surface draping (where the DTM follows Google Earth heights). Previously, only the perimeter was output.
  • Added support for Image Colour Mask Transparency. This allows you to choose a colour in the image. All pixels in the image with that colour will then become transparent.
  • Draw entities in depth order, in addition to layer order.
  • Enhanced anti-aliasing for smoother lines, arcs and text.
  • Jogged radial dimensions included as a new entity type.
  • Convert multiline text to reactive text and vice versa and edit a reactive text expression. Reactive text can contain data fields or expressions that are resolved when the text is drawn.
  • Added support for Block Visibility states. Block definitions can have multiple visibility states, such that one block can contain many graphical representations.
  • Auto spaced dimensions allow you to position the dimension lines consistently from dimension points.
