WATER

Analysis and extended time simulation of fluid handling networks consisting of pipes, valves, reservoirs, pump stations...

What is Water?

Water is a powerful, yet easy to use module for the analysis and extended time simulation of fluid handling networks consisting of pipes, valves, reservoirs and pump stations.

Why Choose Water

IMPORT DATA EASILY

Import data from various sources such as ASCII tables, spreadsheets, dBase or MS Access tables as well as DWG/DXF files.

GRAPHICAL INTERACTION

Graphical interaction allows you to easily insert nodes and links, make changes to an existing layout by moving a node, change the flow direction, and query or edit a link with a click of the mouse.

BITMAPS AND CADASTRAL BACKDROPS

View the network with a bitmap or cadastral backdrop, or display the site contours and slope shading to decide on optimum network layout.

SIMULATE COMPLEX SYSTEMS

Analyse suburbs separately and combine new and existing models to simulate the complex system of networks that are often found in modern towns and cities. The comprehensive network design will take into account the relationship between different branches.

Time-based demand patterns may be defined for different categories of water usage. Each draw-off point may have a different demand pattern.

The impact of extensions to the network, increased demand, imposition of water restrictions, power failures, major pipe breaks and empty reservoir conditions may be readily determined.

CALCULATE DEMAND OR IDENTIFY PROBLEM AREAS

Attach external water consumption tables and compare the measured usage to the modelled consumption to calibrate the demand or identify problem areas in the network.

PUMPS

Up to 8 pumps may be handled in each pump station. The pumps are configured in parallel and may be controlled by pressure, water level or be time-based (on/off at certain times).

VALVES

Valves may be controlled manually, by pressure, by flow, or by level. Reservoirs may have any shape — you can select one of the most common shapes or define the water depth versus volume for a particular reservoir.

DISPLAY RESULTS

Display the results of an analysis graphically by colour according to calculated results, in tables, or on time-based curves.

GENERATE LONG SECTIONS

Generate long sections with the ground profile automatically extracted from the supporting digital terrain model.

Water Functions

INPUT

• MS Access file format for unlimited model size and compatibility with
  GIS systems and other programs
• Data from various sources such as:
• ASCII tables
• Various databases
• Wadiso
• Pipen
• Aquanet Dos
• External databases can be accessed through OLE DB
• Convert a correctly formatted drawing into a network with full
  intelligence
• Read external water consumption tables to calibrate the network
  demand

DESIGN ELEMENTS

• Pipes of different materials with allowances for minor losses and
  bends
• Pump stations can consist of several different pump types
• Pumps may be controlled by pressure, water level, time or manually
• Any type of valve such as butterfly, flat disc, etc. can be modelled
with manual, throttle, flow and pressure control valves
• Model reservoirs of any shape with separate inlet and outlet levels.
• On-line pump and pipe catalogues

DEMAND PATTERNS

• Demand patterns for large cities, villages, rural communities, hotel
   areas, boreholes, etc
• Enter readings from bulk meters to simulate field conditions
• Values can be specified in 15 minutes interval per day, daily per
   week or weekly per year

ANALYSIS

• Error checking prior to analysis saves you time
• Extended time simulation of up to 365 days
• Water loss analysis based on pipe pressure

RESULTS

• Results browser allows you to select a specific time slot in an
   extended simulation. View the following:
• Velocities
• Flows
• Pressures
• Head losses
• Hydraulic grade lines
• Reservoir levels
• Pump duty points

OUTPUT

• WYSIWYG - specify line style and colour of nodes and pipes or
display according to attributes such as type, size, flow, pressure,
   velocity, etc.
• Annotations consist of user-defined text combined with any
   parameter, including:
• manhole cover
• bottom levels
• culvert type & size
• length and slope
• Flow
• capacity
• velocity
• flow depth
• Long sections of single or multiple culverts on single or multiple
   sheets.
• Plan layout with node and pipe annotations.
• Output directly to printer or save in various CAD file formats

“I have come to appreciate the handiness of the Water module of Civil Designer. It is very helpful to be able to put the drawing in the background. Using the model, you can plug in demand values to see the most cost-effective ways to develop.”
Chris Brand
Jeffares & Green Parkman

“CIVIL DESIGNER and ALLYCAD were chosen by Tygerberg Municipality and I have been using it ever since. The huge benefit of these programs is the seamless integration of the CAD, survey and design software.”
Peter Whitwam
