TURN

Simulates low speed turning maneuvers of cars, buses, trucks, trailers, airplanes, user-defined vehicles... along a tracking path.

What is Turn?

Turn simulates the low speed turning maneuvers of a range of vehicles from cars through to trailers and semi-trailers, as well as user-defined vehicles, along a specified tracking path.

Why Choose Turn?

CREATE TRACK PATHS EASILY

It has been designed for ease of use. You simply draw or select the vehicle path, select the vehicle for the simulation, and then specify either a forward or a reverse run to create the track or swept path envelope.

VEHICLE LIBRARIES

Vehicle Libraries are completely user configurable. Libraries for TRH 17 design vehicles and various commercial aircraft are distributed with the program. You can create new libraries and add your own vehicles to the library by simply entering the dimensions for the new vehicle into a graphical vehicle dimension dialog.

A full range of vehicle configurations is supported. Single unit vehicles include passenger cars, buses, trucks and forklifts. Trailer and semi-trailer combinations such as cars with trailers, articulated vehicles and interlinks are also supported as well as nose-steer and tail-steer aircraft.

FORWARD AND REVERSE MOVEMENTS

Forward and reverse movement for any of the supported configurations can be simulated along a specified track path. You can generate minimum turning envelopes by simply indicating a start position and an initial direction of movement. You can then drag the entire envelope to check critical sections of intersections, traffic circles and parking areas.

OUTPUT GRAPHS

Output graphs which are displayed for every simulation can be used to determine how close the design vehicle is to any point along the path at its maximum steering angles.

CARGO POINT TRACKING FUNCTION

Additional points, within or beyond the vehicle’s body, can be tracked using the Cargo Point Tracking function. This allows you to track the position of cranes, side mirrors or cargo extremes along the track path.

DYNAMIC SIMULATION

Indicate the starting position and direction and then graphically indicate a series of way points. The vehicle will automatically move to the way points conforming to its minimum steering angles.

To finish off your drawings you can place a vehicle profile, complete with dimensions, by simply selecting a toolbar button and indicating the position of the profile graphically.

Turn has been used extensively in a number of projects to design roundabouts, intersections, parking areas, load bays and warehouses.

• Track or swept path
• Forward or reverse direction of travel for vehicles with up to two
   trailers
• Draw the vehicle at control points
• Enforce the steering angle limits
• Display a result dialog after the simulation
• Specify the layer names for the vehicle drawing, the track path and
   the swept path
• Specify the line style and colour for the vehicle drawing, the track
path and the swept path for each axle group
• Apply cargo point tracking with:
• line style
• colour
• cargo location

• Define the track path manually, use the auto-tracking facility or
select the path from a road design
• Insert a vehicle profile into the drawing with optional rotation

VEHICLE SPECIFICATION

• Supports 13 vehicle types ranging from single unit vehicles to
interlinks and nose or tail steer aircraft
• Specify the following:
• Vehicle name
• Vehicle and trailer track widths
• Maximum steering angle
• Maximum tractor/trailer steering angle
• Maximum trailer/trailer steering angle

RESULTS

• Table with the following at each coordinate:
• chainages
• steering angle
• tractor/trailer1 angle
• trailer/trailer2 angle

• Graph indicating how close the simulated vehicle was to the
maximum angles along the track path showing:
• actual steering angle
• actual tractor/trailer angles
• maximum steering angle
• maximum tractor/trailer steering angles

• Alignment summary table indicating: Chainage from, Chainage to,
  Type, Direction and Radius.
• Can be printed

MINIMUM TURNING ENVELOPE

• Specify the coordinate interval
• Track or Swept path simulation
• Left or right turning
• Forward or reverse direction of travel
• Specify the angle to turn through
• Graphically display the minimum turning envelope which is grouped
into an object so that you can move it to any position on the
   drawing easily

Formerly SNA Pretoria

I was able to complete the design of the new taxi rank in two weeks. In fact, I won the Employee of the Month award as a result of that.”
Andrew Godfrey :
