GENERATING CONTOURS
In Civil Designer, there are 2 methods available for the calculation of contours.
The default method is Quick Contours. In this method Civil Designer dynamically calculates the contours so that as you modify the breaklines or move points, the contours update automatically.
The second method is Generated Contours. In this method the contours are stored in a contour
file, and are not therefore updated dynamically.
The advantage of Generated Contours is the faster
re-draw speed of large projects. Instead of recalculating the contours during the re-draw,
the program simply reads the contour file.
Generated Contours are now also stored on a per-surface basis.
In this way you don't have to redo generating contours each time when contouring more than one surface.

NSTF Awards |
|
| |

|
The National Science and Technology Forum (NSTF) recently celebrated their tenth birthday. The occasion was marked by an awards ceremony in celebration of the various individuals and groups who were honoured for their outstanding contributions towards
|
scientific, engineering and technological (SET) developments during 2007.
One of the awards was issued to Trac, a partner in Knowledge Base's Corporate Social Investment initiative in the provision of computer based technology and syllabus relevant content to learners and educators at minimal or no cost. The centre has been sponsored with Civil Designer and AllyCAD software as part of an ongoing outreach initiative in the promotion of Maths and Science at secondary and tertiary education level. Knowledge Base would like to congratulate Trac on their noteworthy achievement.

Consulting Engineers South Africa |
|
| |

|
Cesa (Consulting Engineers South Africa), formerly known as the South African Association of Consulting Engineers (SAACE), has undergone a rebranding process, which included a name
|
change, with the aim of repositioning the organisation as the 'voice' of consulting engineering in South Africa.
As part of the motivation for re-branding, Felix Fongoqa, President of CESA explained that "Instead of talking within our industry to ourselves, we need to talk to a broader audience, South Africa is in a crisis, the shortage of engineers is acute, with more leaving every month." Fongoqa also stated that CESA needed to speak to government to find ways of retaining the country's intellectual capital. Most recently the association has, alongside other industry bodies, raised objections to the government's proposal to create a new super council for the Built Environment.

Exploring New Avenues
"The Observatory Business Park was designed with the help of Civil Designer's Turn module. We made good use of the programs road simulation to test the project route before drafting the design. The software helped us with the preliminary designs, feasibility studies and DTM, extending into the final designs for the roads, services and pond structures during the execution of the project."
