Creating a 3D DFX Drawing

Civil Designer can export a Civil Designer project as a 3D DXF drawing. All information that is currently shown on the screen i.e. if breaklines and point names are shown, then this information will be saved as part of the 3D DXF drawing.

In the above example, only the survey points are shown.

Terrain Mode › Tools Menu › Export DXF View

The first step is to create layers that will be used for the exporting of the data.

Type in the layer name and click on the Add button.

Once the layers have been added click on the OK button

The next dialog allows the user to specify what information is stored in the layers defined previously. In this example there is only one layer, and only the points option is active (in the project display settings only points was selected)

Click OK to save the 3D DXF

Using the same project, but with points, heights, names, breaklines and contours shown.

Terrain Mode › Tools Menu › Export DXF View

Additional layers are added.

Notice that there are additional items active. The user can select which layer is used to store the information that will be saved in the 3D DXF.

Click OK to save the 3D DXF file.

As a test, we will open the file in AutoCAD 2002.

Clicking on a line will give you the coordinates and the height (shown in lower left corner)

Listing the layers in the drawing shows the information is stored in the layers specified.
